However, there are some pretty famous kobolds found in various Dungeons & Dragons books and adventure modules. Today we’re going to share some of them.

Using one of these names in your D&D game isn’t necessarily taboo. Sure, some players or DMs may know these already, but how many Johns have you met in your life?

What’s the kobold equivalent of John? 

Well…we’re not sure. But you get the idea. Just take that name and make it yours.

1. Meepo – A kobold from the Sunless Citadel adventure in the Tales from the Yawning Portal, Meepo is a member of the dragon-worshipping kobolds who acts as a caretaker for their dragon wyrmling, Calcryx.

2. Yusdrayl – The leader of the kobold tribe in the Sunless Citadel. Yusdrayl is a clever and ambitious kobold who oversees her tribe’s activities

Gleek the kobold

3. Gleek – A kobold from the Tyranny of Dragons adventure. Gleek is one of the kobold minions serving the Cult of the Dragon.

Zark the kobold alchemist from Waterdeep

4. Zark – A kobold alchemist mentioned in Waterdeep: Dragon Heist. Zark is known for his skills in alchemy and his connections to other underground activities.

5. Skritch – A kobold from the Out of the Abyss adventure. Skritch is one of the many kobolds who can be found in the depths of the Underdark.

6. Snapjaw – A kobold from the Hoard of the Dragon Queen adventure. Snapjaw serves the Cult of the Dragon and helps with various tasks within the cult.

7. Urak – A kobold leader from the Forge of Fury adventure. Urak leads a small group of kobolds within the dungeon and is known for his cunning tactics.

Other Types of Kobolds for You to Name

Kobold Scale Sorcerer – Also from Volo’s Guide to Monsters, this kobold is notable for its magical abilities and leadership within kobold tribes.

Rezmir’s Kobolds – While Rezmir is a half-dragon leader in the Tyranny of Dragons campaign, she commands a group of kobolds who carry out her orders and protect her interests.

Tucker’s Kobolds – Although not a specific name, Tucker’s Kobolds refer to a group of kobolds known for their infamous and highly effective guerrilla tactics in a dungeon run, described in Dragon Magazine 127 by Roger Moore.

Kobold Commoners and Kobold Warriors – Featured in Monster Manual, these kobolds represent the everyday members and fighters within a kobold tribe, showing the more common side of kobold society.

Kobold Inventor – Featured in Volo’s Guide to Monsters, the Kobold Inventor is known for its use of improvised and often dangerous gadgets and traps.

Honorable Mentions

Klarg – While not technically a kobold, Klarg is a bugbear leader of a group that includes kobolds in the Lost Mine of Phandelver adventure.

Szartharrax – A young white dragon that leads a kobold clan in the Reavers of Harkenwold adventure in the Essentials series.
